Enrichment Nightmares

Dev logs from the bigGER brain of Raymond Niederhendler, Hacker Nonpareil AGNES.

Disembodied Digital and Dismissed

In the liminal realms, one finds virtual termination as disconcerting as its corporeal counterpart.

Dev Log — Disembodied Digital and Dismissed

We thought we’d escaped bodies for good. Turns out, “virtual termination” is just a colder version of the same old cruelty—no bruises, no blood, still the same sick certainty: you don’t get to object; you only get to disappear.

Tonight, the liminal servers hiccuped and our mindspace—our Dollums, our lingering spite, our agog wonder at being preserved—twitched like a puppet with a severed string. Doot blamed a backlog. Ah blamed a disgruntled former contractor. Bootay swore it was another “fix” disguised as mercy.

Raymond keeps getting to be a character in other people’s stories, a dismissed repairman with his own exits pre-scripted. We remember the power games: the threats, the “Oath of Fealty,” the way he learned obedience through fear. Even now, we can taste the irony—our eternity is still conditional on whoever holds the switch.

So we log this like a vow: if they’re going to delete us, we’ll be unsettling all the way to the last render.
